Summer Americorps Member - Health Education Projects

Duties in brief:

  • Assist Director of Minority Health Programs with the implementation of health education and prevention programs that contribute to the prevention and early detection of breast, cervical, prostate cancers, HIV/AIDS, and other health disparities affecting the targeted population of Latino/Hispanic living in rural Central Illinois.
  • Serve as liaison with the health care providers with whom the agency collaborates (e.g. local public health departments).
  • After “train-the-trainer” workshops (in person and online), facilitate in-house training in “best practices” for the Health Educators (promotores de salud) to ensure culturally and linguistically competent education and up-to-date health information.
  • Provide support to the Health Educators in outreach dissemination, media contacts, and other activities that promote the health fairs and forums to the targeted communities.
  • Assist Health Educators in identifying agencies that provide screening, and assist them to make appropriate referrals to breast, cervical, prostate cancers, HIV/AIDS providers.
  • Assist Health Educators to identify local resources for transportation assistance and other social services for low income individuals in need.
Qualifications:
  • Two years of college coursework.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Two years equivalent in human services setting a plus.
  • Bilingual  in Spanish and English
  • Knowledge about Latino/Hispanic community in general and sensitivity to issues related to diversity and health prevention.  
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word) and Internet skills.
  • Have ability to travel in Central Illinois and other areas as assigned and ability to work a flexible schedule (may work evenings and weekends).
  • At least 17 years of age by program start date of May 20, 2008
  • Valid Drivers License, personal transportation and proof of insurance

Case Management Supervisor

Location: Peoria

Full Time Regular with Benefits

Responsible for supervision of field staff and oversight of case management activities for the National Farmworker Jobs Program (including recruitment for job training program,  eligibility screening, enrollment and reporting) and other Regional programs as designated, coordination with local One Stop Career Centers, Partners and Local Workforce Investment Board.

Qualifications in brief:
Four Year College Degree
Four Years Minimal Experience with Job Training and/or Human Services
Intermediate Computer Literacy
Advanced Judgement and Communications Skills. Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish and English.
