Since January 2003,  IMC began its housing program to assist eligible low income farmworkers with their rent payments.   The program is funded through the collaboration of resources: the  Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), the U.S. Department of Labor Housing Program (U.S. DOL) and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA- Community Services Block Grant).

The farmworker Rental Subsidy Program will provide rent subsidies to eligible low income farmworkers in Illinois who are having problems making their rent payments.

Among the program's key features are:

  • Landlords and farmworker tenants cooperating together.
  • Ensuring adequacy of housing units for farmworkers.
  • Enabling farmworker families to meet basic living costs.
  • Combining rent assistance with other program services offered by IMC for eligible farmworker families, such as counseling, translation.
